Yellow Goes Green: DHL to be Emission-free by 2050

What does it mean to be a sustainability leader?

It means doing what’s right. Being an environmental steward. Ensuring that when we travel our world’s roads, oceans and skies to deliver parcels today, we aren’t compromising our tomorrow.

In fact, by 2050, DHL will be an emission-free company. It’s an ambitious target, but it’s a goal that we feel is necessary. We’re seeing the devastating impacts of climate change around the world, and we can’t sit by. We have to advocate for businesses to be more sustainable and do everything in our power to set an example in our industry and the communities we live and serve in.

WORLD EV DAY: THE ROAD TO BEING SUSTAINABLE IS ELECTRIC.

Starting right here in our Canadian communities, DHL will be taking a big step by expanding its green fleet. One hundred electric delivery vehicles are making their way to Canada, and will soon be assembling on the streets.

It’s only natural that we start taking to the streets – quite literally – to show how we can make a positive impact. In order to become an emission-free company, over time we’ll be converting our entire fleet to electric. From large-scale delivery vehicles to electric bikes, the future starts now. So the next time you spot a DHL vehicle, know that your yellow delivery is going green!

OUR GREEN FLEET AND OUR SUITE OF GREEN SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES.

The road to being the first zero-emissions logistics company isn’t one that we’re expecting to travel alone. Only once collective action is taken will we be able to reverse the effects of climate change. That’s why we’re helping our partners and clients set and hit their own climate protection targets.

Starting hyper-local, businesses that rely on DHL’s international shipping can rest easy knowing that we’ve made sweeping changes and significant steps to decarbonize our aviation logistics to be more sustainable. Announced earlier this year, our focus on carbon offset projects will bring us that much closer to our zero-emission target. We’ll save approximately two million tons of carbon dioxide emissions over our aviation fuel cycle – that looks like 400,000 running passenger cars.

In addition to the carbon offset projects, we’re also actively working to provide sustainable packaging solutions to our clients, committing to planting one million trees every year, and certifying employees as GoGreen specialists – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

SMALL CHANGES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR YOUR BUSINESS, NATURALLY.

As a small business owner, you know that change comes slowly and then all at once. Discerning shoppers are now likely looking specifically into how small businesses’ are adopting sustainable practices into their products and services, and whether that lines up with their personal values. It can be a lot – but you’re not not alone in this journey.

As your trusted logistics partner, we want to help you realize some of the big-picture changes that reflect your values, so that you can focus on the big-picture priority of running your small business.

Our new green initiatives will provide tangible evidence that we – along with the small businesses we support – are taking steps in the right direction, putting a greener future in motion through the power of electric energy.

It’s only natural that your packages arrive everywhere your clients live on electric power, with DHL.
